POSTUREFIT® - MUSCLE LENGTH, MOBILITY AND ONGOING ATHLETE BODY MANAGEMENT

Muscle and Joint Range of Motion Assessment, Release techniques and Core-Strengthening

Posturefit® by Paul Collins incorporates a 3-Step process in helping tune-up an athlete’s body from which optimal athletic performance can occur whilst also aiding in the prevention of injury. In Step 1, athletes undergo a series of muscular and joint range of motion and body posture assessments. These assessments help identify the onset of muscular tension, imbalance or possible strain along with associated compensatory affects or weaknesses affecting an athlete’s movement mechanics, especially any limitations in speed and agility, strength or power.

Posturefit® is also used to help identify and correct improper movement mechanics in gym-based exercises such as squats, where poor movements mechanics may cause imbalance, overloading and stiffness to particular muscles and joints that filter onto impair proper running mechanics, a loss of speed or power and increase risk of strain or injury. These assessments provide essential feedback from which the methodology of Step 2 is applied – in relation to what specific stretches, trigger point releases or massage is applied for the body to regain joint mobility and postural re-alignment. (Photos of these assessments at the start and end of each session aid in providing a visual guide and essential feedback to the athlete, coach or the high-performance unit or medical staff today or to refer back to in the future).
Once joint mobility is enhanced and muscle balance occurs Step 3 is applied incorporating a series of deep core-stability and postural strengthening exercises to help re-establish better muscle activation and firing patterns, allowing an athlete to train better on the field or in the gym and help optimize their performance whilst helping reduce risk of injury. In an elite arena this involves regular weekly treatment, knowing Usian Bolt undertook similar body treatments (2-3 times a day) to ensure his body was mechanically aligned and so muscles could fire at 100% in training and competition.
Posturefit® supplements any sports therapy, physio, chiro or osteo treatment. It can also aid in the process of recovery of injury, by not working on the injured area itself – being looked after by a doctor and physiotherapist – but by helping aid in keeping the body re-aligned and core strong during this process whilst the injured area heals. A testament to this process is Paul being personally called in by Jarryd Hayne after suffering back-to-back injuries half-way through the 2018 NRL season to help re-align his body and allow him to return to career best form in the back half of the season through regular and ongoing weekly Posturefit® sessions, that supplemented his medical treatment. Paul previously worked with Jarryd during the 2014 NRL season where he was Awarded Dally M player of the Year, then travelled to the USA to help prepare him for his NFL debut.
